Buddy is a zero turn robot capable of performing a variety of RP and engineering tasks from a safe distance. Buddy’s small foot print of 17” x 20” allows him to fit in hard to reach areas. This platform is designed to be de- ployed in hazardous or high rad areas and perform visual inspections while acquiring a multitude or radiation pro- tection data.
Buddy is highly customizable and can carry an air sampler, Indexing Smear Arm, as well as an RDS-31 survey meter and related probes. The air sampler and smear arm are paired with the controller for remote operation. A reverse camera and color system allows the operator to visually document the location of the smears.
The system is designed to be ready for missions out-of-the-box and economical to own. Buddy uses standard smears, iodine cartridges and 47mm filter media. The batteries are standard SLA and provide up to 4 hours of operation. The batteries and wheels can be sourced for tens of dollars at a local hardware store.
